About ITS
The crime scene cleaning and trauma cleanup industry is not new, although many people are unaware that this service is provided by companies specializing in this field. It’s been the subject of several movies, a few reality shows and also featured on several documentaries that outline some of the “most difficult jobs.”
As a project manager in the restoration industry, I would occasionally be tasked with a trauma loss, and I quickly realized that this is a highly specialized situation; not only due to the inherent risks involved with biohazardous remediation, but also the circumstances for the surviving family members and friends. Crime scene and trauma remediation involved a great deal more than the cleanup of property, it also required compassion and empathy.
Several years ago, my father became ill, and within about 4 months he passed away. Although his death was not unexpected, it was still traumatic. It also made me aware of something that I had not completely considered; there were a multitude of things that I was now faced with coordinating such as funeral plans, contacting my relatives and friends, estate matters, finances and more. These were all things that needed to be taken care of, while at the same time coping with the grief from the loss of my father. Dealing with all of this, I was reminded of the trauma losses I had handled in the past as a project manager. It became evident to me that these surviving family members would need someone they could trust and rely on during one of the most difficult times in their lives. Helping others who were going through similar experiences is the reason we started Island Trauma Services.
Elyse Netupsky, who has been an integral part of ITS from its creation, and had come to me with the idea of doing trauma remediation, experienced the significant lose of both her parents in close proximatey, thereby leaving her & her siblings orphaned as young adults. She was faced with a tremendous amount of responsibility and decision making at a time when most chidlren still rely on their parents. Elyse, like myself, understands the importance of having support during these difficult times. Elyse and I were of the same mind in wanting ITS to be a company founded on the purpose of helping others. For that reason, Elyse also wanted our assistance to go beyond our day to day cleaning services and established a "Causes" page on our website and Facebook in order to bring more awareness to the causes that are close to her heart. Additionally, we added a "Support" page to assist our clients and others looking for bereavement support and trauma resources. Our future goal is to establish a website dedicated to providing additional support information to anyone that is need of it.
We are in business not only to provide specialized cleaning services, we also truly want to help make a difference. Whether it is through performing expert cleanup services, providing support information to help people move forward from a loss, spreading awareness about causes we support or making a donation to a worthy charity, we want to do our part to help bring hope and healing to others. It is our purpose and our goal. As we continue to grow our business, so too will we continue to strive to find ways to give back and hope to make a difference each day. Please see some of the causes that we support and are close to our hearts by visiting our Causes We Support page on our website.
Our Team
Island Trauma Services owner, Doug Baruchin, is one of only a small number of people that have been awarded the Council-certified Environmental Infection Control Remediator (CEICR) designation by the American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC). This prestigious, board-awarded certification recognizes one’s knowledge and field experience in remediating building related infection control issues. To earn the CEICR designation, a person must pass a rigorous examination based on respected industry texts and then submit documented, verifiable field experience to a board of peers, earning a unanimous vote of approval. The CEICR designation is accredited by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB).
The team at ITS all share a common interest; we understand our roll goes beyond the work of biohazardous remediation. Many of our clients come to us in a state of grief and are already overwhelmed by responsibilities associated with the loss of a loved one and in need of additional support. Our technicians are all trained and certified to handle biohazardous cleanup, as well as being extremely compassionate and discreet. Each member of our team goes above and beyond on every job we perform. We treat each of our customers as though they are a member of our family.
